We were very lucky
to be in Sarlat for the famous Saturday market when the whole town
becomes an outdoor bazaar, it is quite a sight. We started off with
various cakes and breads, and then completed our market shopping with
a block of kick ass cheese, approximately the size of Spiros' head. We
packed our market finds and started our bike ride towards Rocamadour.
Another beautiful scenic ride along the Dordogne awaited us. We
stopped off for lunch at a park next to the Dordogne
in Souillac. Spiros disappeared for half and hour and returned with
some fougasse, tomatoes and wine!!! Love my husband!!!! We had a very
long, very relaxing lunch.
The remaining ride
to Rocamadour included a 5km strenuous uphill. We pulled into L’Hospitalet, a town situated on the plateau overlooking Rocamadour
and set up camp. We walked down from the plateau to “La Cité”, the
town centre. What a sight! Another beautifully stunning village
perched on the side of a cliff, with a castle at the top overlooking
the valley. I must sound like a broken record by now. We made our way
up the 223 stairs of the Grand Escalier to Chapelle Notre Dame to see
the 12th century black Madonna and then made our way to the
14th century château perched high above “La Cité”. We
decided to have dinner in L’Hospitalet at a restaurant overlooking
Rocamadour and retired to the tent…oh yeah, and had some more cheese.
